here. IMO Craigslist should make it a policy that the freebies have to come from attended parties only. In other words, if the giving party says just to drop on by and come on in and take what you want then the ad would be void. They could add this disclaimer on the free section of the site and in their TOS. That way when a person looks at a free ad and sees that the owner will not be there and that you can just come take things, then they will know it's a scam. However, all of the people that fell for this most likely had to have known (IMO) that it wasn't legit.

I hope Craigslist staff plans on turning over the info of the advertiser, and then makes it known that anyone else that tries to do the same will be turned over to the authorities. They can track the IP etc...
